Ruby’s Journey

When Ruby first came to Ambition Aspire Achieve (AAA) at 13, she was quiet and unsure of herself. She found it difficult to believe in her own abilities and often held back in social situations. At the same time, she was navigating challenges with her mental health, which made everyday life feel overwhelming at times.

From the beginning, AAA became a place where Ruby felt safe, supported and understood. Through a mix of group activities and one-to-one mentoring, she was gently encouraged to step outside of her comfort zone. With time, patience and consistent support, small changes began to happen. Ruby started to open up, build friendships and grow in confidence.

As she got older, Ruby faced a setback when her GCSE results didn’t go as she had hoped, and she was unable to move on to her preferred college course. It was a difficult moment, and for a while, she felt unsure about her next steps. Although she enrolled on an alternative course, it didn’t feel like the right fit, and she chose to step away.

With the continued encouragement and belief from AAA staff, Ruby found the strength to try again. She was supported to see that this moment did not define her, and that she still had the ability to achieve what she wanted. With renewed determination, she made the decision to re-sit her GCSEs.

This time, everything came together. With the right support around her and a growing belief in herself, Ruby achieved the grades she needed and was able to secure a place on her first-choice college course.

Today, Ruby is flourishing. She is more confident, more resilient, and has a positive outlook on her future. She is engaged in her studies, managing her wellbeing in healthier ways, and most importantly, she now believes in herself.

Ruby’s journey shows how powerful it can be when a young person is given the time, space and support to grow. With the right people around them, even the smallest steps can lead to life-changing outcomes.
